This photo shows the mouth of the Merrimack in August 2010, after a severe storm flushed millions of gallons of runoff and raw sewage into the river. The river turned brown for several days. While this was an extreme visual example of the pollution problems the river faces, the river is constantly under siege from pollution. At the MRWC, we are committed to fighting for stronger regulations to keep the river clean. We also work hard to create buffers that prevent runoff from entering the river, as we organize clean-ups to remove trash from its banks and bed. (Photo courtesy of Ron Barrett)
