Annual Meeting 2016
Our annual meeting was a great success! Nate and Rosalind Tufts, founding President and founding Executive Director of the Merrimack River Watershed Council, were honored with our River Hero Award at the Lawrence Heritage State Park.
“Moving to Merrimacport in 1965 we were in a position to see the river treated as ‘an open sewer,’’ said Nate Tufts. “We started MRWC just as the EPA was investing close to $1 billion in sewage treatment facilities from Newburyport, MA to Concord, NH. The goal of ‘fishable/swimmable’ was achieved during the next decades.”
Also at the Annual Meeting, the MRWC was honored with a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from U.S. Congresswoman Niki Tsongas, “in recognition of your 40th Anniversary and for your dedication and commitment to the protection, improvement, and conservation of the Merrimack River watershed for the people, wildlife and communities that surround it.”
Thanks to everyone who joined us.
