The Merrimack River Watershed Council is able to run much more smoothly with the help of our volunteers.
Sarah is a Board Member and a volunteer for MRWC. Sarah first volunteered with MRWC in 2010 doing water quality sampling. She is a resident of Methuen and teaches science in Lawrence at the Charter Country Day Public School. This winter, while teaching a unit in 6th grade about the Merrimack River watershed, she decided to get involved with MRWC again. Sarah studied biology and geology at Colby College and has a Masters of Education from Antioch New England University.
Alyssa joined the MRWC as a federally funded work study student in February of 2015. She is currently a student studying Art at Northern Essex Community College and is working towards getting a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Communications at a four year college. When she isn’t working or going to school, Alyssa likes to spend her free time hiking and exploring outside. Although Alyssa is in school for art, she is passionate about the environment and makes an effort to make a difference at the MRWC.
Kirsten Stemmler, Intern
Kirsten Stemmler joined the MRWC in May, 2016. She is currently studying Biology at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, entering her sophomore year this Fall. Kirsten lives in Haverhill when she’s not at school. She has a passion for bird watching and conservation and is excited to be working with the MRWC this Summer!
Karen Rave, Intern
Karen Rave joined the MRWC in April of 2016. She is currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in Environmental Engineering at the University of Medellin in Colombia. Upon moving back to Massachusetts in March of 2016, she has also been an active volunteer with the New England Aquarium’s Live Blue™ Service Corps Volunteer. She hopes to apply her environmental background to monitoring the water quality of the Merrimack River.
